Flipped learning shows much promise. I really like the idea of sharing content through a flipped learning classroom. As I watched and read about flipped learning I noticed that the examples were mostly science based. As I prepared for my research into Quality Questions, I noticed that most studies also focussed on science as well. This shows a lack of creativity or a lack of exposure on the part of the other subjects. I see that flipped learning could work well in many middle school and high schools. (as a proponent of play and socializing after school for primary and elementary school students, I do not recommend flipped learning for this age group.)
With FLipped Learning, students interact with ideas in the classroom where the teacher can then help them understand the concepts better after learning the content through a video lesson at home. As a middle school teacher who sees 7 minute lessons extend into 20-30 minute lessons because of interruptions, and tangents, I like the concept of a flipped model:

I found your blog interesting. You had many of the same ideas I did. I really liked the quote as well by Dr. Ramsey about how student questions are the seed to real learning. It is so true! I also commented on the rules. One of the most challenging in my experience is being ready to embrace the mess (trial and error) Regarding the flipped classroom, I teach Kindergarten so I don't think it is the best choice for that age or lower elementary either. I do however think challenge base learning and of course (PBL) are better choices for those ages. Flipped learning works better for middle and high school students. My teenage son in 8th grade has a flipped learning math class which he really seems to do better in than the traditional one he had before. It is so much more engaging. I really enjoyed reading your blog post.

I agree with you that there is a lot of science based studies out there using this method. I teach English and English Language Development and have had tremendous success with it. Let me qualify or quantify tremendous success. Well actually you can see my results in my final paper. haha But, really I feel like my kids had better comprehension of what they were learning. And as you mentioned the traditional way could turn a 7 min lecture into a 30 min. lecture.
